Greek mythology: the primal Greek god personifying the sky. His equivalent in Roman mythology was Caelus. In Ancient Greek literature, Ouranos or Father Sky was the son and husband of Gaia, Mother Earth. According to Hesiod’s Theogony, Ouranos was conceived by Gaia alone, however other sources cite Aether as his father. An alternative belief is that he is primordial and born from Chaos, the primal force of the universe, thus has no parentage.
